About LearnServe China (LSC)
"The possibility of a world wide water shortage opened my eyes to the possibility of world wide global action as the next generation prepares to take the helm of leadership."-Cornelius, teacher at McKinley Technology High School

CIE invites schools to send student-teacher teams to China for the summer 2008. Our focus is on the country's rich culture and history and on the impending water crisis it faces within the global community. LSC participants will see and experience these challenges first-hand, and participate in sustainable solutions that are being developed. Upon return to their schools, teams present their reports and plans of action to their school's administration.
LearnServe China is unique because of:
- Diverse participation of public, private, and charter schools
- Priority on taking action in response to pressing environmental issues
- Appreciation of China's rich history and culture as well as its response to a growing environmental crisis of global proportions
- Partnerships with organizations such as Roots and Shoots, a leading international organization addressing the environmental issues
- Development of team action plans to engage school communities in discoveries and solutions
- Extensive pre-trip training and orientation
- Strong technology support of the group through CIE's on-line community and the group's collective blog that engages youth around the world
- Our partner organization in China is the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots and Shoots program (R&S). Through R&S, LSC members work in both urban Beijing and its rural surroundings to evaluate Beijing's and the surrounding rural community's growing water crisis. For the second half of the trip, the CIE group visits Sichuan Province to work on a R&S project in the countryside. Included in the program are visits to important cultural landmarks in China as well as exploration of its unique culture and history.
